Networking in Private and Public Clouds

Home » Webinars » Cloud Computing and Networking » Networking in Private and Public Clouds

This 5-hour webinar describes the networking requirements of various cloud services (from infrastructure virtualization to software-as-a-service solutions) and designs you can use to build data center networks that support them.

The webinar focuses on IaaS networking scalability and helps you select the most appropriate architecture for your environment based on the number of physical servers and tenants you envision in your environment.

1:23:34 Requirements

This section defines typical cloud services, from SaaS to IaaS, provides an overview of network-related IaaS services, and describes typical multi-tenant requirements.

29:09 Simple Cloud Networking Implementations

Every cloud environment must provide the basic network-related IaaS services: attach a VM to a segment, and assign an IP address to a VM. Most IaaS clouds also provide at least rudimentary tenant isolation.

1:39:09 Virtual Tenant Network Implementations

Virtual tenant networks are the hardest challenge when designing the network services in an IaaS cloud:

  • You could use VLANs or overlay virtual networks;
  • Virtual tenant networks could be implemented in hypervisors or in ToR switches;
  • The choices you make will have significant impact on the scalability of your infrastructure.

23:22 Over-the-Cloud and Hybrid Cloud Solutions

You could build virtual tenant networks on top of an IaaS infrastructure that doesn't provide them. The same solutions can also be used to connect workloads runninng in multiple cloud environments (hybrid clouds).
